For Compliance Programs, What Comes After #Metoo?

People have called it a reckoning. The New York Times acknowledged its “raw power.” The Washington Post noted “a groundswell of sharing and healing.”

As Oprah wrote on her website about the ‘floodgate’ power of #metoo:

“None of us knew it would lead to this. We’re in the middle of a sea change, a cultural shift. And it’s been a long time coming.”

Over here at Rethink Compliance, as the harassment stories broke, one after another, and the public conversation built, one thing become immediately obvious: Our client companies were going to need a new way of addressing harassment and related behaviors.

This new approach needed to be credible in this post-#metoo world.

It needed to connect with people, to seem like something more than corporate window dressing.

We’ve spent a few months now thinking, reading, and talking with compliance and HR leaders at some of the world’s leading companies, and we’ve developed a point of view on what might work.

We’re excited to share our thoughts and our new anti-harassment toolkit—but before we do, we want to share something else: our collaboration with Gary Turk, a viral video artist.
